Introducing Psychic Essentials: Psionic Character Options & The Astral Plane, a module for Shadowdark RPG that is all about exploring the power of the mind! Within you'll find rules for playing the Psychonaut Class, a psychic explorer who unlocks new psionic abilities as they level up. These powers function somewhat similarly to spells, except that they can each be "upcast" for more powerful effects - but be warned, doing so increases your risks of Psychic Backlash! 

The Psychic Backlash table is an innovative mechanic that scales the die you roll with the tier of the psychic power you failed to cast -- from a d4 for Tier 1, to a d12 for Tier 5. The results span from various migraine-like symptoms to bending the very forces time & space (or maybe you'll just make somebody's head explode!).

In addition, you'll find guidelines for exploring the Astral Plane - the plane of thought, dreams, and the collective unconscious - whether through the Astral Projection psychic power, or through portals.

Lastly, you'll be introduced to the Jana ancestry - a psychically-gifted race that was once enslaved by the alien Brain Eaters, and who now treasure freedom and self-knowledge above all else.
